Abstract: [eng] This article reports a research aimed to appraise whether it is possible to bring figures in order to make clearer a controversy about public aids to agriculture and forestry in mountainous areas. The controversy opposes supporters of the present French (and EEC) system to supporters of a total cancellation of these aids, the natural patrimony being managed by a public service. . On a given pilot area, the result is that none of these types of management would decidedly override. But the ability of generalizing such a type of work much depends upon the access to data that are not usually collected. [fre] Cet article rend compte d'une recherche visant à évaluer s'il est possible d'apporter des éléments d'appréciation chiffrés dans une controverse sur les aides publiques aux activités agricole et forestière en montagne. La controverse oppose les partisans du système actuellement pratiqué en France (et dans la CEE) aux partisans d'une suppression totale de ces aides avec gestion du patrimoine naturel par un service public. . Le travail effectué a montré que, sur la zone pilote où a lieu l'étude, aucun des deux modes de gestion ne l'emporterait de façon déterminante. Mais la capacité de généraliser de telles études dépend beaucoup de l'accessibilité à des informations qu'il n'est pas habituel de collecter.
