Abstract: [fre] Bien que la France ait mis en œuvre des moyens importants pour développer des méthodes d'élevage ovin intensif, l'écart entre production et consommation ne cesse de s'accroître, contrairement à ce qui s'observe au Royaume-Uni, où l'élevage est réputé plus extensif. . Pour autant, le modèle britannique n'est pas applicable à la France, en raison des disparités qui existent entre la dimension des exploitations (en termes de surface comme en termes de dimension économique) et surtout en raison des disparités de fonctionnement économique qui existent entre les exploitations de plaine et de montagne qui créent une forte complémentarité entre elles, largement soutenue par l'Etat. [eng] Though important means have been inplemented in France to develop intensive sheep breeding ways, the difference between production and consumption is running larger, contrary to the United Kingdom, where more extensive ways of breeding, can be observed. . Nevertheless, the british example can't be applied in France, because of the disparities which are lying between the size of the holdings (in terms of surface area as well as economic size), and above all, because of the disparities in managing of Hill farms and Lowland farms, which carry a close complementary, firmly supported by the government's policies.
