Points de vue d'agriculteurs sur la protection douanière de l'agriculture au début des années 1880

Abstract: [eng] In 1 879, the beginning of the agricultural crisis led the government to ask the French National Agricultural Society to carry out a survey on the situation of agriculture in France in the year 1879. One of the questions of the survey concerned the customs regulations of farming products. The answers, which came from fifty-five « départements », that is to say the major farming areas of the time, were provided by the correspondents of the Society, most of them experienced farmers, still at work and having responsibilities within the agricultural world. Their answers enable us to define the views of the agricultural world as regards customs regulations. In the early 1880s, the majority of farmers were in favour of a return to a fairly moderate type of protectionism. [fre] En 1879, les débuts de la crise agricole conduisent le gouvernement à demander à la Société Nationale d'Agriculture de France, l'organisation d'une enquête sur la situation de l'agriculture en France en 1879. L'enquête comporte plusieurs questions dont l'une porte précisément sur le régime douanier des produits agricoles. Les réponses en provenance de cinquante-cinq départements, soit les principaux types de régions agricoles de l'époque, sont fournies par les correspondants de la Société, en majorité des agriculteurs en activité, avec une grande expérience de l'agriculture et des responsabilités au sein du monde agricole. Elles permettent de définir le point de vue de ce dernier en matière douanière. Dans leur majorité, les agriculteurs demandent au début des années 1880 le retour au protectionnisme, mais à un protectionnisme plutôt modéré.
