Abstract: [eng] In spite of its importance to the agricultural sector, little attention has been given to the European agricultural inputs sector. This paper outlines the nature of the industrial organisation of two important constituents of this sector, the EC fertiliser and tractor industries. Specifically, the paper focusses on the prevailing market distortions in the EC fertiliser and tractor markets and the potential benefits to farmers following completion of the EC internal market in 1992. It is expected that farmers' welfare will increase following the removal of barriers to EC trade but the welfare gains will be more significant if the single market also promotes the rationalisation of these industries. However, given the structure and ownership of the fertiliser and tractor industries, it is suggested that further structural change is unlikely to occur and that the welfare gains to farmers will be limited mainly to the removal of existing non-tariff barriers in the EC. [fre] Malgré son importance pour le secteur agricole, on a prêté peu d'attention au secteur des consommations intermédiaires agricoles en Europe. Cet article décrit les grandes lignes de l'organisation industrielle de deux éléments importants de ce secteur : les industries des engrais et les industries des tracteurs de la CEE. Plus spécialement, on s'intéresse ici au déséquilibre en matière de concurrence dans la CEE et aux avantages que la réalisation du Marché CEE interne en 1992 va apporter aux agriculteurs. On pense que les avantages matériels des agriculteurs augmenteront à la suite de la suppression des barrières du commerce communautaire. Cependant, les avantages collectifs seraient plus importants si le marché unitaire permettait aussi la rationalisation de ces industries. Etant donné la structure et les actionnaires des industries d'engrais et de tracteurs, nos résultats suggèrent qu'un changement ultérieur au niveau de la structure a peu de chance de se produire et que les avantages pour les agriculteurs seront généralement limités à la supression de barrières non-tarifaires dans la CEE.
