Abstract:
[eng] ALENA : its implications for caribbean and central america exports to US . The main features of alena are described, with emphasis on agriculture. Because of changes in tariff and non tariff protection rules, relative competitivenesses are changing, both between countries within the region, and between the region and Mexico. This does not mean that the new emerging situation will last for long. New agreements may reshaffle the cards again. Above all, permanent comparative advantages are probably more important than preferences in explaining trade.
