Abstract: [eng] The impact of the agricultural settling and modernizing policy in Portugal . The article takes stock of the implementation in Portugal of Ec Regulation n° 797/85 on improving the efficiency of agricultural structures. It aims at assessing the actions designed to favour settling and modernizing in agriculture and consequently a well-balanced development of the country. It is based on research studies concerning the analysis of the agricultural settling process in Portugal. This process is defined as starting from the date when a new farmer gains control of a farm to the date when he actually manages it. [fre] Cet article vise à faire le point sur l'application au Portugal du règlement CEE n° 797/85, concernant l'amélioration de l'efficacité des structures de l'agriculture. Son objectif est d'évaluer les actions entreprises censées favoriser l'installation et la modernisation agricoles dans la perspective du développement équilibré du pays. Il a pour origine, des travaux de recherche portant sur l'analyse du processus de l'installation agricole au Portugal. Ce processus a alors été défini de façon élargie se référant au parcours qui mène de la succession à la prise en charge de la direction de l'exploitation agricole par le nouveau chef.
