Abstract: [fre] Les maires ruraux constituent institutionnellement, politiquement et sociologiquement un milieu tout à fait spécifique. Leur engagement personnel vis-à-vis de leur communauté et les liens qu'ils ont avec elle sont très forts. Si l'action municipale est tournée vers la recherche de la croissance économique, le maintien de l'héritage et de la personnalité traditionnelle de la commune est tout aussi important. Dans cette perspective, la décentralisation et l'intercommunalité sont envisagées avec beaucoup de pragmatisme. [eng] Mayors in rural districts . Mayors, in rural districts, have typical features from political, institutional as well as sociological point of view. They have a very strong and personnal bond with the village. They act for the economical development of the district and also to keep the local community alive. In that way new administrative and political processses like decentralization or intermunicipal cooperation are managed by them with great pragmatism.
