Les enjeux de l'approche géographique de l'exclusion sociale

Abstract: [fre] Face à l'intensité du discours sur l'exclusion et la « fracture sociale », il est important pour le géographe de réfléchir sur les apports de sa démarche, l'analyse des rapports sociétés/espaces, pour la compréhension comme pour le traitement de cette question sociale. La réflexion que propose cet article repose à la fois sur un état des lieux bibliographique et sur une recherche sur l'exclusion en milieu rural effectuée en coordination avec les Missions Locales Rurales dans trois territoires ruraux de leur action (Centre Manche, Lubéron, Morvan). [eng] Geographers have something to say about exclusion . This paper tries to answer to the question : « Have geographers anything to say about exclusion ? » First they disqualify the assimilation made by the decision makers between spatial segregation or social division of space and ethnic and social exclusion. More, by precise analysis of localities, areas and spaces, like what was done in three rural « arrondissements » of France, they can say something about the spatial dimension of exclusion processes as well as about the role of the quality of spaces on the indivdual representations of social regression, and about the evaluation of the practices of associations and local collectivities in front of the « rising underclass ».
