Abstract: [fre] La mise en place de marchés de l'eau est parfois proposée pour une réallocation efficiente. Certains existent déjà dans différents pays (États-Unis, Mexique, Inde). Mais l'analyse de leur impact reste rare et insuffisante pour en justifier l'instauration dans d'autres systèmes autrement que d'un point de vue théorique. Après un rappel de la diversité des « marchés de l'eau », l'article s'intéresse à l'impact économique de marchés existants décrits dans la littérature. Il analyse ensuite celui de marchés potentiels d'eau d'irrigation en France et au Pakistan. Les modèles économiques développés soulignent que cet impact est limité et permettent d'identifier des conditions nécessaires pour qu'il soit économiquement significatif. Ces conditions représentent des éléments à mobiliser pour identifier les instruments de gestion adaptés à des environnements physiques et socio-économiques particuliers. In response to the increasing water scarcity, water markets are sometimes proposed to reach an efficient allocation. Such markets already exist in a number of countries (USA, Mexico, India). However empirical studies analysing the impact of water markets are rare and not sufficient to recommend their implementation in other contexts, apart from a theoretical point of view. After a description of what is called water market the paper focuses on the literature analysing the economic impact of existing water markets. The impact of potential irrigation water markets in France and in Pakistan is then analysed using an economic model based on linear programming; this impact seems limited. However, the study identifies necessary physical and socio-economical conditions for such water markets to have a significant economic impact.
