Abstract: [fre] Capacités de transport, coûts de transport et organisation de l'espace. . L'objet de cet article est d'analyser le rôle que jouent les fluctuations du taux d'utilisation des capacités de transport dans les relations entre économie des modes de transport et organisation socio-économique de l'espace. Certains types d'inter­ventions publiques dans le secteur des transports (subventions, prêts, obligations de service public) sont expliqués dans ce contexte. On montre que la notion de capacité de transport ne peut pas être précisée sans référence aux caractéris­tiques de la demande. Le rôle des capacités de transport excédentaires dans l'histoire de la concurrence rail-route est indiqué. In this paper, we analyze the role of fluctuations of transportation capacities utilization rates in the relations between transportation modes economies and the spatial organization of the economy. Some types of interventions of the state in this sector are explained. It is proved that transportation capacities cannot be defined without any reference to demand characteristics. The role of excess transportation capacities in rail-road concurrence history is sketched.
