Abstract:
[eng] Age versus evolution of the business firm . Is it possible that, under certain conditions, the age of the business firm could constitute a valid indicator to explain the évolution of the firm ? The author has gathered empirical evidence on this topic from several pieces of research among which his own fidings on small business companies. Three criteria have been selected to describe what is called here the evolution of the business firm : growth, profitability and stability. The investigation of the first two criteria shows that the performance of the firm decreases as the firm grows older. However, the data indicate that the stability of the firm is postively associated with its age. The scope and the limitations of such findings are debated in the latter part of this article.
