Abstract:
[eng] Wage rates, wages earnings, concentration. and unionization in French manufacturing industries. . The empirical analysis presented in this paper is an attempt to discriminate between tivo competing theories (Dunlop and Garbarino) on the influence of the structure of the product markets on wage rates. The interaction between concentration and unionization is explicitly taken info account in the model. The model is tested for France at the industry level and for the sample of manufacturing firms. The results suggest that even when one takes info account the colinearity already noticed by some authors (Weiss) between concentration and unionization, there may be some grounds to believe that concentration on the product market is positively related to wage rates and wage earnings.
