Abstract: [fre] L'objectif de ce papier est de mettre en évidence, à l'occasion d'une synthèse de la littérature, les principales causes de divergences entre profitabilité (privée) et désirabilité (sociale) d'une allocation des ressources pour les différentes structures de marché quand les producteurs déterminent non seulement le prix de leur production mais également leur niveau de qualité, le montant de la publicité qui en est faite, la variété qui en est offerte et enfin, l'importance des investissements en R&D. Il apparaît que, si l'introduction de cette dimension « non-prix n définit des types d'inefficiences allocatives spécifiques, la principale cause d'inefficience est identique à celle qui prévaut quand le prix est la seule variable de décision : l'inappro-priabilité pour le producteur du surplus engendré par sa production. The aim of this paper is to show, through a survey of the literature, the main causes of divergences between (private) profitability and {social) desirability of an allocation of resources for the different market structures when producers détermine not only the price of their production but also its quality level, the amount of advertising, the variety offered and level of the investements in R&D. It appeared that, if the introduction of this nonprice dimension causes specific allocation inefficiences, the main cause is the same as can prevail when price is the only decision variable : the inappropriability for the producer of the surplus created by his production.
