 L'économie cachée en France: état du débat et bilan des travauxJocelyne Gaudin and Michel Schiray Revue Économique, 1984, vol. 35, issue 4, 691-732 Abstract: [fre] L'article réexamine le thème de l'économie cachée, souterraine ou non officielle en France à partir des courants de travaux socio-économiques existants. Il tente de dégager les acquis de recherche et de mettre en évidence des intersections entre champs disciplinaires différents. Une première partie présente une synthèse du débat récemment engagé qui s'organise autour de questions essentielles, la régulation et le dualisme socio-économique et l'articulation de l'économie cachée avec l'économie officielle. Une deuxième partie analyse les travaux, parfois anciens, sur chacune des réalités de ce thème : l'économie domestique, l'économie communautaire et associative, le travail au noir et l'économie monétaire non enregistrée. Il apparaît qu'un bilan des travaux sur l'économie cachée nécessite d'élargir la réflexion à d'autres orientations de recherche qu'elle traverse directement. La troisième partie aborde successivement les styles clé vie, la consommation élargie, l'organisation du temps et le temps de travail, la segmentation du marché du. travail, les nouvelles formes d'organisation du travail et l'économie sociale. Instituant sur l'importance d'une réintégration du thème de l'économie cachée dans l'analyse économique, la conclusion propose également de développer des recherches d'économie anthropologique pour construire des bases de comparaison à l'échelle nationale et internationale. [eng] The hidden economy in France : a state of the art review. Jocelyne Gaudin, Michel Schiray. This article re-examines the concept of the hidden, underground or informal economy in France based on a review of the socio-economic literature. By using established rescarch in different fields it attempts to shed more light on this interdisciplinary subject. The first part presents a synthesis of recent debute on the hidden economy revealing its basic themes including its regulating role vis-a-vis the economic crisis, the socio-economic dualism and its interaction with the formal economy. The second part analyses contributions, often longstanding, on the different levels of production, that is household, informal networks, community and voluntary organizations, as well as different types of undeclared monetary activities both legal and illegal. An assessment of research on the hidden economy indicates the need to expand the scop involved to include other fields of research that intersect this subject. The third part subsequently deals with lifestyles and market/non rnarket consumption, patterns of time-use as well as working time, the segmentation of the labour force, new forms of work organization, and the French concept of the social economy, i.e., non profit organizations, co-ops and mutual societies. Emphasizing the importance of integrating the reality of the hidden economy in analyses of the formal economy, the conclusion proposes the development of anthropological economic research in order to provide comparative studies at the national and international levels.
