Abstract: [eng] Economics, history and the birth of polthcal economy Quesnay, Turgot et Condorcet, Say, Sismondi. . The conflicting relationships between historical sciences and political economy burst open as soon as the surge of the former at the beginning of the XVIIIth century raised the question of the foundations (and legitimacy) of the new emerging social prder, capitalism. A first current attempted to build a social order on a- or trans- historical " natural " principles, leading into an determinist and static economic worldview, where reformism is the pillar of conservatism. The second, looking ahead, is concemed with change : it is dynamic, probabilist, utopian and even revolutionary. This paper studies this dialectic at work among the French economists from the collapse of the Ancien Regime to the consolidation of the new social order, the natural conservatism ot the Physiocrates and Say opposing the fluidity and openness of historical change of Turgot, Condorcet and Sismondi. En s'émancipant de la théologie au début du XVIIIe siècle, l'histoire pose la question du fondement (et de la légitimité) de l'ordre social à une période où la montée du capitalisme subvertit les valeurs et rapports anciens. L'économie politique naît dans le sillage de cette histoire mais entretient avec celle-ci des rapports conflictuels. Un premier courant cherche paradoxalement à fonder l'ordre social sur des principes supérieurs « naturels » a- ou trans-historiques. Il conduit à une vision du monde économique déterministe et statique, où le réformisme est fondamentalement conservateur. Le deuxième, tourné vers l'avenir, a pour objet le changement : il est dynamique, probabiliste, réformateur utopique, voire révolutionnaire. Cet article étudie cette dialectique chez les économistes français entre l'effondrement de l'Ancien Régime et la consolidation du nouvel ordre social bourgeois, le conservatisme naturaliste des physiocrates et de Say renvoyant à la fluidité de l'évolution historique chez Turgot, Condorcet et Sismondi.
