Abstract: [fre] Regard d'un ancien sur les nouvelles théories de la croissance. . Vers 1960, la théorie de la croissance visait à expliquer les différences constatées dans les rythmes d'expansion, à aider à la planification, à comprendre le fonctionnement intertemporel des économies de marché. Elle butait sur des difficultés concernant les unes la connaissance factuelle, les autres la formalisation. Malgré l'enrichissement de la base statistique, les justifications empiriques des nouvelles théories restent assez fragiles. L'examen de leurs formalisations conduit d'abord à poser des questions de méthode sur les intentions et les prétentions des théories. Il conduit enfin à la conclusion qu'il s'agit de nouvelles et intéressantes explorations théoriques plutôt que de l'expression de nouvelles théories. Around 1960 the theory of growth aimed at explaining observed differences between rates of expansion, at helping towards planning, at understanding the intertemporal functioning of market economies. It stumbled against difficulties concerning either factual knowledge or formalization. Notwithstanding improvements in the statistical base, empirical justifications of the new theories remain fairly weak. Study of their formalizations leads first to raise methodological questions about the objectives and claims of theoreticians. It eventually leads to the conclusion that one is really facing new and interesting theoretical explo­rations rather than new theories.
