Abstract:
[eng] Transition in central europe : an assessment and suggestions for alternatives. . Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia (Central European countries) are considered as faring better than other post-communist countries. However they also experienced a drop in output, did not entirely succeed in stabilizing their economies, and the pace of structural transformation is slow. Is it a normal outcome of transition ? Could one apply alternative policies ? The paper shows, in a political economy perspective, that alternatives were near to non-existent short of a major political shift. [fre] La transition en Europe centrale. Interprétation et voies alternatives. . Pouvait-on concevoir d'autres politiques ?
