46, issue 2, 365-392

Abstract: [eng] Small and medium sized firms-bank integration : an industrial organization approach. . Based on a study of small-and medium-sized firms in the Paris region, the authors challenge the idea of bank withdrawal from company financing as an aspect of disinterme-diation role of banks in the economy during the 1980s. Among the traditional criteria used to analyse the variation in the closeness of such companies with banks, size does contribute to the assesment of risk, but proves insufficient to adequately explain the differences among companies. Criteria derived from industrial organization permit us to bring out more clearly the specific character of the relationship between banks and small-and medium-sized companies. The nature of this relationship seems to result mainly from the differentiated nature of the anticipation and the industrial organization of the companies and thus tends to validate the idea of bank selective engagement. [fre] Degré d'intégration bancaire des PME. Une approche par l'organisation industrielle. .
