Abstract: [fre] L'économie de la recherche scientifique est le cadre aujourd'hui de discussions intenses : quelles sont les caractéristiques des outputs de cette activité et que peut-on en déduire en matière de schéma d'incitation et d'organisation ? Le flou des réponses apportées à ces questions provient de ce que deux programmes de recherche se font face. Les points d'opposition découlent de ce que d'un côté, (Arrow, Dasgupta et Da- vid), les propositions analytiques correspondent dans l'ensemble aux résultats standards des problèmes d'incitation et d'allocation des ressources en économie de l'information, tandis que de l'autre côté, (Mowery et Rosenberg, Pavitt), elles sont issues d'une économie qui reconnaîtrait la spécificité de l'activité de production de connaissances scientifiques et techniques, par rapport à la production d'information. [eng] The economics of scientific research is today the scene of an intense debate: what are the characteristics of the outputs of this activity, and what can one deduce from these in terms of a scheme of incentives and organisation? The vagueness of the answers so far made to these questions is a result of the fact that here two research programs are in confrontation with each other. The opposition proceeds from the fact that, in the one program (Arrow, Dasgupta and David) the analytical propositions generally correspond to the standard results of the problems of incentives and allocation of resources in the economics of information, whereas in the other program (Mowery and Rosenberg, Pavitt) the propositions issue from an economics that recognises the specificity of the process of production of scientific and technical knowledge, as distinct from the process of production of information.
