Abstract: [fre] Si la question de la taille optimale des nations est ancienne, elle est posée aujourd'hui par la prolifération de nouveaux pays apparemment viables malgré, parfois, leur petite taille. Pour certains auteurs, l'ouverture des économies retire à la grande taille une partie de ses avantages. Après avoir rappelé quelques critères de taille optimale, le texte nuance l'opinion selon laquelle la globalisation conduirait à la fragmentation des nations. Il constate néanmoins une réallocation de certains éléments de souveraineté nationale au profit de pouvoirs infra-nationaux d'une part et supranationaux d'autre part. [eng] The questions concerning the optimal size of nations are old and always posed today by the proliferation of apparently viable new countries in spite of their small size. For authors, the opening of the economies withdraws to the big size most of its advantages. After having pointed out some criteria of optimal size, the text moderates the opinion according to which the globalisation would lead to the fragmentation of the nations. Nevertheless the paper notes a reallocation of certain elements of national sovereignty to the profit of infra-national structures on the one hand and supranational structures on the other hand.
