The Mezzogiorno and National Unity
Giorgio Napolitano
QA - Rivista dell'Associazione Rossi-Doria, 2010, issue 1
Abstract:
There was never a greater advocate of the reasons for Italian unity and of the cause of Southern Italy, the Mezzogiorno, than Giustino Fortunato. His ideals and his political battle hold a decisive place in the historical record and reflections to which we are bound. Harking back to the fundamental lesson Fortunato left us, the policy of the Italian State must now enter a new phase. A key point of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Italian unity must be the commitment to promote fresh awareness of the new opportunities the Mezzogiorno now has to offer.
