Abstract:
In Italy integration between market and environment policies has only recently been addressed, mainly in response to pressure from the European Community and various other international agencies. The first systematic response and collection of data was made by Anpa (National Agency for the Protection of Environment), which in 1998 implemented the National Information and Monitoring System (Sina). The method proposed by Anpa is adopted in this paper to define a set of indicators functional to analysis of the environment’s state of health in Southern Italy. The results obtained, while limited solely to institutional information requirements and aspects subject to Italian and European legislation, offer interesting insight into Southern Italy’s environment and provide a set of indications which may well prove of great interest if further developed.
