Abstract:
Can rural areas in Developing Countries, where still the majority of population lives and poverty is often a general condition, actively participate in and take advantage from the so-called Knowledge Society? This article presents the main applications of Information and Communication Technologies that in the future may have a positive impact on economic and social development of these areas. At the same time, it addresses the major infrastructural, social and economic barriers that should be broken down to increase the diffusion and adoption of these technologies.
