The Outward Mobility of Students from Southern Italy after Secondary School

Abstract: This paper focuses on analysis of the mobility choices made by graduating high-school students in Southern Italy who go on to enroll at University. Based on data collected with the Istat survey "Percorsi di studio e di lavoro dei diplomati" (Secondary school graduates’ study and work careers) (Istat, 2010b), we analyze individual and contextual factors correlated to: i) the mobility choice; ii) the preference for a specific macro-region.
