Agriculture and Territory: Where Are the Farms?

Abstract: The 2010 agricultural census survey yields a detailed picture of farms and the varied range of organizational, dimensional, and productive types. With a simple methodology of typological classification, the analysis proposes a reading of the census results distinguishing between farm-enterprises and farm-holdings on the basis of the different levels of increasing entrepreneurial orientation. The main objective of this work is to identify and locate different types of enterprises/ holdings at the municipal level. The results of this analysis confirm the connection of some factors with the spread and growth of farm-enterprises, but there is also evidence prompting reflection on the role of policies for agricultural and rural development.
