Abstract: It is generally considered that, especially in the case of culturally distant translations, cultural elements that are present in the source text cannot be completely and accurately conveyed into the target text. This paper aims to present several translation techniques that could help preserving cultural information through translation, and to discuss each one’s advantages and disadvantages. Examples are given from published Romanian translations of Japanese literary works
