Abstract: Foreign direct investment inflows were steadily increasing in India since 1990s and the impact on the economic growth was more or less ambiguous. This paper attempts to examine the nexus between foreign direct investment and the economic growth in India during the period 1990- 91 to 2014-15 (post reform period). From the results it was observed that, at the aggregate level, foreign direct investment does not have a positive effect on the economic growth in India. It was also found that economic growth was influenced by domestic investment and not by foreign direct investment in the post reform period
