Abstract: This paper surveys the theoretical literature devoted to the effect of labor mobility on social and redistributive policies for member states of an economic union. It presents the basic model which relies on a non-cooperative equilibrium, discusses some of the main qualifications that can be addressed to this model and then turns to the solutions suggested to give back to national governments their redistributive power and possibly to achieve some redistribution within the whole economic union. Il est aujourd’hui largement admis que l'intégration économique et la mobilité du travail érodent la capacité redistributive des gouvernements nationaux. Dans cet article, je présente une synthèse critique des travaux théoriques consacrés à ce sujet et je discute quelques solutions qui ont été suggérées pour permettre aux États de redistribuer plus efficacement les revenus à l’intérieur de leurs frontières nationales, voire au sein de l’union économique à laquelle ils appartiennent.
