Abstract:
This study examines the effect of creative skills on the employment generation of selected small and medium scale enterprises in Lagos state Nigeria. This paper also highlights creative skills needed in establishing small and medium scale enterprises. The survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of 80 entrepreneurs was drawn using a random sampling technique and data were collected through questionnaire. The 5- point Likert instrument was employed for data collection and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis to test all hypotheses at 5% level of significance. The findings revealed that all the entrepreneurs were agreed upon creative skills help in establishing small and medium scale enterprises. The results also found out that a possible change in the employment generation of the small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) can be explained by the creative skills. Thus, creative skills influence the employment generation of small and medium scale enterprises. Given the critical role small and medium scale enterprises play in employment generation, the paper therefore recommended that policy thrusts should be beamed on the entrepreneurs’ skills development, upgrading and certification; and establishing a facility to support their income and employment generation capacity.
