Abstract: In a recent paper in this journal, Khan (1994) presented an analysis of potential gains from trade liberalization in Bangladesh. The importance of the magnitudes of price elasticities of imports and exports for estimation of welfare gains within a CGE framework is duly emphasized by Khan. As she points out, if the elasticities are small, the likely gains from trade liberalization are also limited. The price elasticity estimates for imports and exports used by Khan are -0.3 and 0.54 respectively.1 The estimate of the price elasticity of aggregate imports is low and consequently the implied gains from trade are small
