Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relation between economic integration among developing countries and foreign direct investment (FDI). After considering the basic issues of economic integration and FDI, the impact of government intervention on the location of TNCs is analyzed. Empirical evidence of FDI inflows into African, Asian and Latin American countries participating in intra developing country integration schemes is then presented. The conclusion is that there is no relation between economic integration among developing countries and FDI inflows. Policy implications suggest a number of measures that need to be implemented in order to improve the inflow of FDI.
