Abstract: This papers looks into the Japanese case of FDI surge in the European Community in view of the EC-92 program. First reference is made to the changing pattern of FDI strategies in the Triade (CE, Japan, USA). In particular, the paper reviews the response so far of US and Japanese FDIs to the production-based European integration in the mid-80's. Then it concentrates on the Japanese case and examines the basic attributes that enable to look in the post EC-92 era for Japanese FDIs in the European Union. This is done by contrasting the dictates of the main theoretical works on the subject with the real happenings in the European Union.
