Abstract: Professor Amato graduated in Economics and Commerce from the University of Genoa in 1965. In 1969, as winner of the prestigious Gulbenkian fellowship, he completed his training at Cambridge University. In the following years he carried out his teaching and research activity at the University of Genoa, rising to become Professor of Economic and Financial Policy in 1980 and, subsequently, Professor Emeritus in 2013. The acuteness with which Prof. Amato directed Economia Internazionale was grounded in his intense research activity. Taking on the editorship of the journal he had, in fact, reoriented his research themes to the analysis of real and financial international aspects and dedicated himself to deepening these research themes with a passion in which it was difficult to separate the love for research from his fascination with Economia Internazionale, an enthusiasm which he had already demonstrated earlier in his career when he collaborated with the director of the time, Prof. Orlando D’Alauro.
