Abstract: The aim of this paper is to introduce a methodology for systematically analyzing System Dynamics models that display qualitatively different behaviors (growth and decay, for example) as the value of some parameters change. The practical application of the methodology benefits from a computer tool which can be implemented with conventional computer environments used in System Dynamics. The methodology proposed here is based on conventional sensitivity analysis. The advantage of this methodology becomes apparent when it is essential to discriminate between different behavior modes to obtain relevant conclusions about a model. The methodology is presented by its application to a policy design model that shows behavior modes which are mainly growth and decay processes.
