Abstract: Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand and recognise emotions in oneself and in others. At the workplace, it helps preserve a healthy work environment through better collaboration among workers. This research study examines the link between emotional intelligence and job performance of employees working in the Jordanian retail industry. Using the data of 120 employees of different age, gender and work experience, the study finds are a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and employees’ work performance. It is also observed that emotional intelligence differs with respect to employees’ experience but not with gender or age. The study recommends Jordanian organisations to introduce emotional intelligence development programs for existing staff to improve their performance at work.
