Abstract:
This paper develops a theory of the fertility choice that focus on the shadow price of the quality of children and fertility rate within a framework of long term economic growth. The analysis also links the shadow price of quality with the interaction between fertility and economic growth. Through the choice of per child quality within family, the analysis contributes to narrowing the many remaining gaps between endogenous family decisions on fertility and aggregate economic growth.
