Is Tourism Just Another Commodity? Links between Commodity Trade and Tourism
Stephen Easton
Journal of Economic Integration, 1998, vol. 13, 522-543
Abstract:
Commodity trade and international tourism may be linked through substitu - tion on the supply side or by substitution or complementarity on the demand side. Simple correlation reveals a positive association between international tourism to and commodity exports from Canada. A model incorporating both tourism and exports provides evidence of substitutability between them. Such a link implies that export promotion or tourism promotion may work at cross purposes.
