Abstract: This study was carried out to find out the effect of human resource management practices on organisational performance in the public sector. Specifically, this study sought to ascertain the influence of effective recruitment and selection, training programmes, rewards/incentives,on organisational performance. The data used for this research were gathered mainly through primary source. The researchers administered two hundred and ninety-two (292) questionnaires to respondents comprising of academic and non-academic staff of the Faculties of Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts, Law, and Education of the University of Benin, Benin City. Out of the two hundred and ninety-two questionnaires administered, two hundred and eighty-five (285) questionnaires were retrieved and used for the analysis. Testing was conducted using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression technique. Findings from the analysis revealed that there is a significant relationship between training programme, rewards/incentives, employee recruitment, and organisational performance. In line with the findings, the study recommends amongst others that organisations specifically in the public sector, maintain a culture of training and training should be structured in such a way that employees consider it suitable for their skills development and subsequent advancement in the organisation.
