Abstract:
This paper makes an analysis of the literature on the international purchasing power parity (PPP). One explanation for not fulfilling the PPC is the Harrod-Balassa- Samuelson effect, as well as the presence of a structural change in the economy. The literature reveals that empirical results in favor of PPP improve when both advance econometric panel data methods are used and structural change effects are incorporated. However, empirical results on PPP are not conclusive.
