Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to estimate the role of the foreign direct invest-ment (FDI) in Mexico’s economic performance in the context of NAFTA. A comparative analysis which includes different macroeconomic indicators at a state level such as per cápita gross domestic product, foreign direct invest-ment, registered homicides, students enrolled and level of indebtedness. A particular emphasize is made on the origin and destination of the FDI, show-ing the states that receive more investment and those who receive the least. Amultiple regression model is applied to show de correlation level of the stud-ied variables. Having as a result a positive significant correlation between the FDI, the GDP and students enrolled. This will try to prove that FDI has been an important driven force for the development of the country.
