State aid for green energy. Short overview of the EU and Romanian legislation

Abstract: The present article presents how State aid influences the development of renewable energy sources. EU State aid refers to the rules and regulations established by the European Union to regulate and control public support provided by member states to companies. The objective is to prevent distortions of competition within the EU's single market and ensure a level playing field for undertakings. The EU State aid framework consists of treaties, guidelines, regulations, and decisions issued by the European Commission. Romanian State aid refers to the specific legislation and policies adopted by Romania to govern the granting of public support to companies within its jurisdiction. Romania aligns its State aid regime with the EU State aid rules and regulations. It establishes an institutional framework comprising authorities responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing State aid control in the country. The Romanian State aid legislation aims to promote economic development, enhance competitiveness, and comply with EU standards.
