Abstract:
The Romanian water sector faces many challenges coming from the Romania’s membership to EU, as complying with the European Directive 98/83/EC on drinking water quality by 015 and with Directive 91/271/EC on urban wastewater treatment by 2018. Therefore, the sector went through a major reform process in the last years: an ambitious investment and institutional capacity development program has been prepared and is now under implementation. For increasing access to better water services and for protecting and restoring water resources in Romania, there are funding opportunities under the EU Cohesion Policy, in order that the ambitious targets and the implementation schedule to be achieved, as established by the EU Accession Treaty.
