Sludge Management at Targu Mureș WWTP

Abstract: Compania Aquaserv is a regional operator for water and sewage services in Mures and partly in Hargita counties. It is well-known that sludge management became a hot issue in the last period and WWTP operators are preoccupied in finding the best long term solution for sludge disposal. The paper presents the applied sludge process technology at Tirgu Mures WWTP, including sludge thickening, ultrasound conditioning, and anaerobic fermentation with biogas utilisation in cogeneration plant, sludge dewatering and thermal drying. For long term disposal there were investigated different solution such as: agriculture, co processing in cement factories, decentralised incineration and the last one was selected as preferred option. The technical details of the decentralised incineration are presented together with the main economical figures (capital&operational costs). Also influence of the solution is evaluated on the sewage tariff.
