Abstract:
The biological treatment of wastewater is characterized by groups of microorganisms and the enzymes secreted by them. These hydrolytic enzymes are vital for the rate-limiting step of hydrolysis in the treatment of extracellular polymeric substances. The present article reviews the enzymatic activity of activated sludge, promoting that the connection between the chemical composition of wastewater and activated sludge enzymatic activity originates from microbiological wastewater response to interaction with activated sludge.
