Influence of the demographic factor on the regional labor market

Abstract: The article discusses the influence of the demographic factor on the regional labor market as one of the most important elements of the development of society. In the course of the study, it was revealed that currently in Russia there is observed the minimum unemployment rate for the entire post-Soviet period, not exceeding 5%. Low unemployment can be partly explained by a reduction in the labor force due to an unfavorable demographic situation, and not by an increase in the economic activity of the population. It is revealed that the demographic processes currently taking place in Russia are accompanied by a decrease in the population size, due to the low birth rate and the aging of the population, low life expectancy, and high mortality (especially at working age). The overall decline in the population and especially the working-age part of it, adversely affect the formation of the labor market, reducing its ability to work. The difficult demographic situation led to the implementation of an unpopular measure in Russia - raising the retirement age. The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the pension reform.
