Solving the problem of depressed areas through creation of a good-neighborhood environment (Patrushi village case)

Abstract: The active development and growth of urban centres often lead to a decline in the popularity of nearby areas such as small towns and villages. These areas experience negative population dynamic, stagnate in development and become economically and socially depressed. In such cases, it is essential to engage with the territory proactively by designing and implementing revitalisation projects. This paper examines the case of Patrushi village (Sysertsky District, Sverdlovsk Oblast) as a means of addressing the issue of depressed territories. To objectively forecast the potential outcomes of the proposed project, a range of general scientific research methods were employed, including data synthesis, deduction, interpretation of scientific data, analogy, objective modelling, and comparative analysis. The authors propose a comfort-class residential neighbourhood project, complete with essential infrastructure and amenities, aiming to revitalise a depressed area. The project emphasises the creation of a high-quality living environment that fosters comfortable interaction and a sense of community among residents. Potential synergies between this proposal and a previously implemented project in Patrushi village are also explored. The appeal of suburban housing in this location is enhanced by Patrushi’s proximity to the major urban centre of Yekaterinburg, making it attractive to prospective residents. The paper presents calculations of the project’s commercial effectiveness indicators, demonstrating its feasibility and the potential for successful implementation.
