Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyze the influence of age stereotypes on ideas about patriotism, including ideas formed in media discourse. Methods. The empirical basis of the study is the results of semistandardized interviews (N = 48, autumn 2023, St. Petersburg, Makhachkala, Ivanovo, informants were differentiated according to gender, age and political preferences) as well as a thematic analysis of media outlets of various ideological orientations - TsarGrad (Internet TV channel), the Pravda newspaper (CPRF), the Telegram channel of the New People party, the LDPR party newspaper. Based on the material obtained, the role of age stereotypes as instruments of political struggle for rethinking and changing the substantive content of patriotism was studied. The author adheres to the approach, considering patriotism as a socially constructed form of national identity and an object of symbolic politics. At the same time, various political actors seek to change its semantic content in the public consciousness. As a result, it is substantiated that one of the tools for creating and changing patriotic discourse are age stereotypes, understood as stable, emotionally charged, shared ideas about different age groups. It is concluded that age stereotypes are actively used by Russian political media informing the patriotic agenda, forming the idea of patriotism of different generations.
