Soviet railways: the myth of the "golden age"

Abstract: The article discusses some of the problems of rail transport in the conditions of the Soviet planned economy. The problems of shortage of rolling stock, irrational shipments, quality of transport services and problems with investment in infrastructure development in 1960-1980-ies are reviewed.
