Abstract:
This article analyzes the factors that influence the behavior of people in Russia about their health. We tested the hypothesis that the people of Russia with a relatively high rate of time preference are more inclined to conduct an unhealthy lifestyle than individuals with a relatively low rate. Verification of the hypothesis is based on the analysis of data obtained from a survey of the Russian population over 15 years old, conducted by the Levada Center in 2011. The results of estimation models have shown that individuals with higher rate of time preference is more likely prone to unhealthy lifestyle than those with a relatively low rate. Conclusions of the work may be useful for the planning of the state policy in Russia, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle of the population.
