Abstract:
The paper assesses the impact of price mechanisms alcohol policy on the scale of alcohol consumption in Russia. The analysis is based on data from the Russian monitoring the economic situation and public health (RLMS), the HSE for the period 2010-2013. Panel sample included 18,340 observations (4585 observations per year). In the econometric analysis, it was found that an increase in the minimum price for vodka reduces both the volume and the possibility of consumption of vodka and beer, ceteris paribus. In addition, there was a significant negative correlation was found between the general rise in prices for alcoholic beverages and the volume of consumption of alcoholic beverages (except beer and vodka). These results confirm the effectiveness of the measures recently adopted by the price of the state's anti-alcohol policy.
